What healthcare staff are provided by Farm & Wilderness?
Farm & Wilderness Camp Healthcare: On-Site Nurses, Four Health Clinics, Wilderness First Aid/EMT-Trained Staff, and Local Hospital Access Ensure Comprehensive Medical Support Throughout Summer Sessions
On-Site Healthcare Staff
Farm & Wilderness maintains a team of nurses and medical support staff who are on-campus and on-call throughout the summer. We operate four on-campus health clinics to serve their various camp locations. We hire camp nurses to provide and coordinate healthcare for their camp community, with positions available for full summer or half summer terms.
Staff Medical Training
The vast majority of Farm & Wilderness summer staff are trained in Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder/EMT, ensuring that basic medical support is available even during wilderness activities and trips.
Off-Site Medical Resources
Beyond their on-site facilities, Farm & Wilderness has access to local hospitals and health centers for situations requiring more advanced care. The camp has established relationships with these off-site medical facilities to ensure campers can receive appropriate care when needed.
Routine visits and Emergency Rooms are less than 30 minutes drive in Rutland and Woodstock, and specialists at Dartmouth Hitchcock in NH are less than an hour's drive away.
Medical Documentation and Preparation
Before camp begins, families must complete health profiles for their children through a system called CampDoc. The camp conducts pre-screening where staff review this medical information and contact families to ensure they can properly support each camper's needs. This preparation helps the healthcare team understand any specific medical requirements or concerns before campers arrive.
This comprehensive approach to healthcare helps ensure campers' safety while they enjoy their wilderness experiences in Vermont.
