How does Farm & Wilderness make sure all campers feel included?
We create an inclusive and supportive community where counselors check in daily with campers, staff are trained to handle homesickness, and both new and returning campers participate in activities that foster unity and collaboration, ensuring everyon
We prioritize creating an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and supported. Our counselors conduct daily check-ins with their campers to ensure their well-being. Our staff members are trained in grounding techniques and handling homesickness, normalizing anxiety and stress related to being away from home. We have a behavioral flow chart in place to determine the specific needs of each camper. We value parental feedback in the health information provided, as it helps us cater to the individual needs of our campers.
All returning campers, even those who have been away for 10 months or longer, participate in an orientation designed to help them reintegrate into camp life. We foster a culture of unity among cabins and throughout the camp, where singing, working, and laughing together highlight the idea that camp is truly better when we are together. Returning campers play an important role in assisting new friends, as a cohesive group experience enhances the fun for everyone. Additionally, with the arrival of new counselors and campers, we introduce fresh activity offerings, ensuring there is always something exciting for all to enjoy. Our camps emphasize more than just entertainment; they require a collaborative effort to maintain a thriving community. This allows new campers to contribute meaningfully while returning campers have the chance to serve as role models. The positive impact of their collective efforts is quickly visible in how well the cabin or activity group functions as a unit.
