Ensuring Camper Safety and Privacy: Why We Ask About Sex Assigned at Birth on Health Forms
We understand your concerns regarding privacy and safety. The question about a child's sex assigned at birth has been part of our CampDoc Health Form since we adopted this registration system in 2022. Additionally, questions about gender dysphoria have been included since either 2022 or 2023.
Why do we ask these questions?
- Medical Preparedness: This information is crucial for our medical staff, who may need to act in loco parentis (in place of a parent) in case of an emergency where the child cannot provide this information themselves.
- Privacy and Confidentiality: The information is strictly confidential and is only accessible to our medical staff. It is not shared with the majority of our staff.
- Respect and Care: Our medical staff are committed to respecting each camper's identity. They ensure that outside care providers use the correct name and pronouns, regardless of what is printed on documents like insurance cards.
Future Improvements:
- We are considering updating the format of this question for the 2026 registration to allow for more personalized responses. This change will enable parents to share information in a way that feels most comfortable to them.
Commitment to Privacy:
- We take the responsibility of caring for your children very seriously. We do not comply with requests for access to this information from illegitamate individuals or organizations. Our priority is always to do the right thing and protect the privacy and safety of our campers.
We appreciate your trust and cooperation as we work together to keep your children safe and respected. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
