What is your level of experience/comfort with kids who are not neurotypical, i.e. high-functioning autism spectrum disorder /ASD campers?

Farm & Wilderness supports neurodivergent staff and campers and we also evaluate abilities around essential functions at camp before the summer.

We have a diverse community of campers, including many who are neurodivergent, and we celebrate countless success stories. Our commitment to inclusivity drives us to hire exceptional educators who are on the spectrum or have ADHD, as we believe all campers benefit from having role models who exemplify the strengths that come with being different. Understanding that neurodivergence exists on a spectrum, we provide families with a clear outline of our “essential functions of camp” during the registration process, or upon request. If a family indicates “No” to any of the essential functions, this does not automatically disqualify them from camp participation. Instead, it signals the need for a more in-depth conversation to ensure we can effectively support the camper’s experience while they are with us.

"This summer has been the best of my life, even though this year was probably the worst. at Timberlake, you can be yourself and rather than being shamed or put out, you would be held up and congratulated. "
