What does gender inclusivity look like at our all gender camps?
All of the Farm & Wilderness Vermont summer camps embrace gender inclusivity, allowing our youth to select a camp environment that aligns with their gender identity. Throughout the summer, our camp programs incorporate education about gender, creating a welcoming space for campers to express their thoughts and share their experiences while also learning about diverse perspectives. The nature of these conversations adapts to suit the different age groups of participants.
Grounded in the Quaker principle of valuing the inherent Light in every individual, Farm & Wilderness camps strive to ensure equitable access to our programs and organization. We understand that discussions surrounding gender identity may be new for some campers while deeply significant for others. Alongside our mixed-gender summer camps—Saltash Mountain, Tamarack Farm, and Barn Day Camp—we also offer programs with origins in traditional girl or boy camps. Firefly Song welcomes campers and staff who identify as female or gender non-binary (excluding cis-male), while Timberlake is open to campers and staff identifying as male or gender non-binary (with limited cis-female participation in non-cabin roles).
Regarding camper and staff housing arrangements, we maintain alignment with the camp's assignment practices, with careful review by camp and staff leadership that may result in exceptions. This approach has resulted from a thoughtful multi-year process involving input from both camp and board levels.
[My teen’s] experience was wonderful on every level. It was fun and also helped them to grow. I especially appreciate the gender inclusive atmosphere and the foundation of Quaker principles in the community. So unique and beautiful.
