Evening Discussions Using Four Core Ideas Framework (Identity, Empathy, Critical Thinking, Action) Build Community Understanding, Prevent Incidents, and Foster Personal Growth at All Developmental Stages
To uphold our core values, we facilitate evening discussions for the entire camp, aimed at fostering inclusivity and enhancing awareness surrounding issues of race and class. These discussions are rooted in our commitment to these values and are also a component of our behavioral risk management strategy, which has demonstrated effectiveness in mitigating incidents.
The framework is structured around four Core Ideas: Identity, Empathy, Critical Thinking, and Action. These Core Ideas build upon a facilitation model that has been implemented at F&W for nearly a decade. Each Core Idea encompasses 4-6 competencies such as "You can have empathy for others’ identities without adopting them as your own ". These discussions are scaled for age, and also allow for individuals to be at different points in their understanding and that "the perfect is the enemy of the good" with this type of workshop.
