Is instructional swim required?

Mandatory Instructional Swim for Level 1-2 Swimmers at Firefly Song, Timberlake and Barn Day Camp, Natural Lake Settings for All Campers, Supervised Water Activities Without Formal Instruction at Saltash Mountain and Tamarack Farm

Instructional swim is a fundamental component of the swimming program at Firefly Song and Barn Day Camp, ensuring that campers develop essential swimming skills in a safe and structured environment. At Timberlake, participation in instructional swim is mandatory for any camper who is classified as less than a Level 3 swimmer on a scale of 1 to 5, which indicates a basic proficiency in swimming. Additionally, parents or guardians have the option to request that instructional swim be made mandatory for their children, regardless of their current skill level. This ensures that all campers receive the necessary instruction to swim safely and confidently.

It is important to note that instructional swim is not available at Saltash Mountain or Tamarack Farm. Campers at these locations will have the opportunity to swim or wade under supervision of qualified Lifeguards, but they will not receive formal swimming instruction. Regardless of the camp, all swimming activities take place in serene lake settings, providing a natural environment that enhances the overall experience. Our commitment to lake swimming, as opposed to traditional pool settings, allows campers to connect with nature while engaging in water activities.
